Swing Bed The term "Swing Bed" was coined under a federal program in which rural hospitals with less than 100 beds are able to designate acute care beds that can be "swung" between acute care and long-term care, dependent on patient and census needs.
E.J. Noble Hospital has designated 10 beds on its medical-surgical unit for this transitional care.
